The reception immediately following the ceremony will be held at the Brantwyn.
The Brantwyn is a former Dupont family residence on the grounds of the Dupont
Country Club in Wilmington, DE. The name is derived from the word "brandywine,"
and honors the fast flowing river that powered the mills that the Duponts
owned.
Built in 1940, Brantwyn is similar to the design of
Bois-des-Fosses, the Dupont estate in Chevannes, France. Many details of
the French home take root from its splendid Georgian architecture.
In
1990, the Brantwyn was purchased by the Dupont Country Club and restored with
the guidance of Winterthur Museum.
Brantwyn is placed at the end of a sweeping
drive where graceful proportions of its brick facade rise above sixty acres of
lawn and gardens. The grounds are meticulously nurtured to yield delights
and to provide an excellent backdrop for photographs. On Summer evenings,
the gardens release the fragrance of flowers and a magnificent fountain cools
the air. Brantwyn is surrounded by a quiet wooded countryside, yet conveniently
located by major highways.
The Georgian elegance of Brantwyn begins in the
foyer where each of the three doorways is crowned by the original carved
woodwork. Five distinctly different rooms make up the main floor of
Brantwyn.
The Pierce Library is filled with books of English botanical prints
and a collection of antique toys. The room has a fireplace and is ideal
for parties of 10-12. A special touch is the ceiling painted with stars.
